BLOG POST 3, RELATING THE ICT MASTERPLANS TO THE ESE
I fervently believe that all the three Masterplans were applied with great effect in my ESE Junior College. The students were always encouraged to make power-point presentations in front of the entire class. They were able to effectively use resources from the Internet to carry out intensive research work, linking many fields of thought. They would then use the visualiser to project their worksheets, or share their power point presenations with the rest of the class. Some students also showed video clips to enhance and support their presenatations on poetry. The participants of each presentation session were actively engaged in using the ICT tools, in order to carry out their study of a text. The teachers I observed during my ESE had kept themselves very updated regarding the various ICT tools available to them and they often shared a lot of information with their students. A lot of the projects focused on international and global issues, and hence the students were encouraged to work independently and confidently, by effectively using ICT tools as their educational resources. I think that the use of ICT tools further enhances the symbiotic relationship which is seen to exist between the student and teacher, by making learning an extremely stimulating and collaborative endeavour. Both the student and the teacher learn from each other and can enlighten one another with a multitude of new concepts.

BLOG ENTRY 2, MASTERPLANS FOR ICT IN EDUCATION
1. Education opens the door to a whole realm of knowledge and information. The knowledge-based economy of today will greatly benefit from the presence of self-motivated and independent cultivators of knowledge, who can actively and effectively contribute to the society. The Masterplans for ICT which have been developed by the Ministry of Education are making a great contribution to the fields of knowledge acquisition and learning. Each individual, whether a pupil or a teacher, is being exposed to a plethora of new cultures, by virtue of the ICT tools. This not only broadens their horizons, but also allows them to gain multiple perspectives on a single issue, which is so essential for the optimum functioning of human minds. Knowledge has become much more readily accessible, as a result of which learning has become an immediate and hassle-free process. Dynamism has become a key-word to describe the class-room culture, because both the students and teachers alike are constantly upgrading themselves and sharing their new findings with one another. The proper use of technology enables people to become more pro-active and responsible. Young students begin to realise the value of the internet and its multiple uses from an early age. With adequate guidance from their teachers, they are able to recognise the need to browse safe, reliable and relevant web pages, as opposed to counter-productive ones. Hence, the three Masterplans, which have been so thoughtfully devised by the MOE, have helped education and learning transcend the limits of the classroom. People are now becoming trained and equipped with the knowledge to learn everywhere and anywhere, because information is now literally on their fingertips, and they can conduct their own research responsibly and intelligently.
2. I have unfortunately not had the opportunity to make use of the MOE ICT Masterplans as a student, because I have studied overseas.
3.I most certainly believe that the ICT Masterplan 3 will have a very positive impact on my role as a teacher. I think one of the most important aspects of this particular Masterplan, is to oversee the maturing process of the students. The teacher will be able to guide them to make them responsible citizens, with critical thinking skills. This Masterplan aims to establish a salubrious learning atmosphere, where the students have to be able to work and communicate with one another. The teacher can make full use of the Masterplan 3, to facilitate this process among students. I observed several collective learning platforms during my E.S.E., such as group blogs, where the students were allowed to post their views and opinions on literary texts, and hence help enrich one another by exchanging ideas and interpretations. They can even discuss aspects of cyber wellness with one another, so that they know where and how to find the most appropriate information, relevant for their courses, and which websites to avoid. Teachers are always ready to guide students, but each individual must be encouraged to cultivate knowledge and critical learning skills on his/her own, and share their opinions with one another as well. This can be achieved by implementing Masterplan 3, of the ICT programme.

MY ESE, Preparatory Task One
Wednesday, August 3, 2011ENHANCED SCHOOL EXPERIENCE, PREPARATORY TASK
ENHANCED SCHOOL EXPERIENCE:
PREPARATORY TASK FOR ICT FOR MEANINGFUL LEARNING
________________________________________
Enhanced School Experience: Classroom Observations of ICT Use
(I) Specific Observations
School Name: Pioneer Junior College
Class: J I English Literature class, A lecture on how to tackle ‘unseen poetry’
Profile of the class:
(For e.g., the students’ academic abilities, stream and other characteristics)
The academic abilities of the students were admirable. They were a group of pupils who had a keen willingness to learn. They were attentive listeners and had meaningful questions to ask at the end of the lesson. They seemed to be very interested in the subject. They did not hesitate to ask questions when they were in doubt, and they were keen to learn about the thought processes of their fellow peers.
Subject:
What ICT tools are used in the lesson?
The Power Point presentation was an important tool used during the course of the class. The visualizer was also used very frequently.
The Projector was also employed.
The lap top of the teacher.
An electronic dictionary.
Describe how ICT is used for teaching and learning in the lesson.
The power point presentation, was an essential component of the lecture because it helped the students to visualize concepts more clearly. There were a lot of slides which were projected on to a screen, to explain abstract poetic ideas. For example, one particular slide carried a particular poem, and there was accompanying analysis on the same slide. This had a very positive effect on the students, because they were able to immediately relate the analysis to the poem which they were studying. Another slide contained a very detailed chart, which graphically illustrated different literary techniques and devices. This enabled students to comprehend difficult ideas, owing to the extreme organization of the chart. A lot of pictures were also projected, to help the students conjure up a visual picture of the poem they were supposed to study in detail.
The lap top of the tutor was an indispensable device, because without it the power point presentation could not have been made, and the slides would not have been able to be projected on to the screen.
The visualizer was extremely helpful. In this class, it was used to show-case a corrected question paper of a student. The English Literature teacher used the visualizer to demonstrate her method of correction to the students, and went into great detail to explain why and where she had deducted marks. This greatly helped each pupil to realize what the teacher expected of him/her, and hence helped strengthen their grasp over academic writing.
(II) General Observation:
How do teachers in the school feel about the use of ICT for teaching and learning? (For this question, you may want to speak to the HOD/ICT and other teachers you know in the school.)
The teachers, in general, feel that information and communication tools have definitely improved the scope for teaching and learning. The use of the ICT tools has opened up a world of new educational opportunities for teachers and students alike. Knowledge is much more easily accessible and available nowadays, and is literally at one’s finger-tips. The teachers feel that ICT tools help them reach out to their students more effectively. ICT tools also make it5 possible for teachers to use their time more efficiently
